Dear Parents and Students,
Our upcoming summer mission trip is almost here, and we look forward to seeing how God will show up and move both collectively as a group and individually within our own hearts. As you get busy packing, don’t forget the most important step in this process is prayer.
Students, be praying for your own walk with God as our departure day approaches, and if you’ve been distant from Him,
now is the time to “get straight with Him”. Ask him how he wants to use YOU on this trip. Remember to come with a positive attitude, because when you do, you allow God to work in you.
Parents, please be praying for us throughout the week, both for your own son/daughter and our entire team. Pray for great weather, safety, team unity, your teen’s spiritual growth, opportunities to share our faith, and for the leadership team.
These
parent devotionals will be a resource for the Lord to speak to you through the same Scriptures that He is using to speak to your student. This material will help you better understand what they are studying and experiencing this week. You can also use it to have a discussion after the trip
Both, please be aware that, just like on the team building retreat, we will not be allowing cell phones (or any other electronic device) on the mission trip, as it really does distract and deter from the time away and focus of the trip. For 51 weeks out of the year, teens are attached to their cell phone/ipod etc., and we have found they survive (and thrive), connect with others, and hear from God better going without them for one week. Students usually say it was a nice break from being tied to it once they get used to the idea of not having it.
I ask you to partner with me in making sure your son/daughter does not bring their cell phone even if you don’t agree with this policy. Check with them before leaving to make sure it’s at home. It’s that important. If a student is found with one, they will NOT get it back until the very end of the trip. In addition, because of this becoming such a problem/distraction in recent years, if your teen is found with one, he/she will also need to pay
$20 again this year in order to get it back at the end of the week, and we will put the money towards expenses associated with the trip.
I will certainly call you if there is an issue to be addressed, and if you have an
urgent matter, call my cell phone. You can find that contact info. in the attached newsletter. Otherwise, your teen’s team leaders will have their cell phones who you can call
if it is something important.
We have an easy way for you to stay updated throughout the week via text. See the newsletter for details on getting text updates sent right to your cell phone. Additionally, we hope to post pictures and the text updates to our church website as well (see link in the newsletter below).
As part of this newsletter, you will find our times to leave and approximate time of return. This is just a reminder (from the yellow folder you received at the Info Mtg) to meet at church
Monday June 26 at 8:45am. It’s important to be on time so we can leave in a timely manner. You will also find a complete packing list (
go through it with your son/daughter line by line so we’re all clear on what’s expected please).
